Over the past five years, Marshall County has experienced a substantial increase in addiction related crimes and related social problems such as child abuse and neglect, spousal abuse and divorce. Drug addiction is no longer a problem isolated to big cities, but has now come to our front door, to the Grant Community.
First in the number of arrests for Methamphetamine use in Alabama.
Fourth in Child Abuse & Neglect in the State of Alabama.
Methamphetamine Lab Seizures - From 83 in year 2000 to 296 in year 2004.
Methamphetamine has become the largest drug threat in the state of Alabama.
There were 505 meth related cases that involved DEU and 173 of them were labs.
According to the DEA, "The gaining popularity of methamphetamine abuse in small towns and communities is directly responsible for the increase in thefts, violent assaults, and burglaries."
Marshall County Drug Enforcement Unit reported an estimated 173 meth labs in 2004, rising from 3 in the year 2000, indicating that illicit production is on the rise.
